Airdrie-Bathgate Network Rail lines up new business and employment opportunities Print E-mail
The benefits to local businesses and employees when the Airdrie-Bathgate line opens were outlined to members of Lanarkshire and West Lothian Chambers of Commerce by Network Rail.

The occasion was a joint members’ lunch held at the spectacular Vu Restaurant, Bathgate.

Ron McAulay, Network Rail Director-Scotland, told local businesses: “The new line will benefit around 10,000 businesses in North Lanarkshire and West Lothian, allowing people to find work more easily and make commuting much easier.
“It’s not just about jobs – it’s also about accessing facilities such as education as well as employment opportunities. Our consultation process showed that 52% of those questioned said it would make work and education that much easier.
“The Airdrie-Bathgate line proposal was the fastest process to go through the Scottish Parliament for a transportation issue, and it’s good to see around 500 people on site.
“There will be improved park-and-ride facilities, provision of bus pick-up and turning facilities and we hope these will contribute to a reduction of traffic congestion.”
Lanarkshire Chamber president Maurice Logue said: “It was a most useful exercise to link up with our colleagues at West Lothian Chamber to hear and ask questions about a major issue which affects both sets of members.
“The ambitious project potentially has many benefits for business – and communities - in parts of Lanarkshire and West Lothian, and the Chambers are offering whatever support they can to help and advise businesses who think they can benefit from this venture.”

Duncan Walker, the West Lothian president added: “We enjoy working with our neighbouring chambers, particularly on joint projects such as the Airdrie Bathgate rail link.  Our members were able to make new contacts as well as hearing how their businesses will be affected by this major public investment.”
