Award Winning Businesses take centre stage in West Lothian

The prestigious award ceremony was deemed a great success and was celebrated in style at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre.  The event was attended by over 200 guests and business leaders from West Lothian and beyond.

NAS Recruitment Services, which has boosted turnover from £595,000 in 2006 to a projected £2 million for 2009, took the High Growth Business award. The Livingston firm specialises in temporary contract and permanent staffing solutions for the transport and distribution sector.

The Innovation award went to Encap Drug Delivery of Livingston which has invested £3 million to expand its facilities by almost 50%. Judges said the company’s pioneering work in the development of encapsulation technology to produce a drug which releases antibiotic directly into the gastro-intestinal tract meant Encap now supplies 90% of the relevant European market.

Another triumph for Mark Beaumont, recent runner-up in the Scottish Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards.  Unique Care Solutions, the Blackburn-based domestic care company he started with grants from Business Gateway and a low interest loan from the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT), won the award for Best Business Start-up.

Creation of its own newspaper earned Armadale Primary School the Enterprising School Award.  The project by classes 6 and 7 involved a number of different roles and encouraged the children to work together as a unit to achieve their common goal- “The Dale News.”
