Atos, an international IT services company, received the runner-up prize from the Sick Kids Friends Foundation for their fundraising contribution to the charity last year.
The Sick Kids Friends Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Awards, in collaboration with the Edinburgh Evening News, took place at the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh on 10 May as part of the Foundation’s anniversary celebrations. The purpose of the event was to recognise heroes from the hospital and from dedicated fundraisers.
Atos was named as the runner-up for ‘A company whose fundraising for Sick Kids has been beyond expectations,’ with the category being sponsored by Beattie Communications.
Since 2008 Atos has raised over £21,000 for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, one of the company’s corporate sponsored charities in Scotland. Over the years Business Technologists have held regular bake sales, weekly dress down days and quiz nights to help raise funds for the charity, as well as team building events at NHS Lothian’s Sunndach Children’s Respite Home to maintain the garden and bedroom interiors.
Maureen Harrison, Chief Executive, Sick Kids Friends Foundation said: “We were delighted to see that Atos had such success in our awards - it was truly deserved! We really appreciate all the hours of gardening and painting that they have done at Sunndach and also the amazing fundraising which has meant that many extra items of sensory equipment have been bought for the children using the facility.
“All of the children have highly complex nursing needs and it is so important to them and their families that they are cared for in the best possible surroundings. Atos’s fundraising and volunteering has helped us to provide the best environment and experience for them. Many congratulations from all of us here at SKFF!”
Gavin Thomson, Atos’ Senior Vice President in Scotland, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for this award by the Sick Kids Friends Foundation and that our staff’s fundraising efforts has resulted in such a large sum of money being donated to the charity.
“This demonstrates how dedicated all of our employees are to our corporate social responsibility in supporting the important work carried out by our corporate sponsored charities.”
Tesco Bank was named as the winner of the category at the Edinburgh event.
Atos in Scotland also supports other corporate charities – Macmillan Cancer Support, Maggie’s and Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.
Atos is the Official Supporter of Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games providing essential Games Management Systems and Games Information Systems to help run a successful Games.
Atos won the ‘Best Business Newcomer’ at Scotland’s Modern Apprenticeship Awards 2012. Atos has also been awarded the West Lothian Business Excellence Award for Best Business in 2009, 2010 and 2011.
