Chambers of Commerce comment on the closure of the Grangemouth petrochemical plant.
Laurence Barrett, Chief Executive, Forth Valley Chamber of Commerce said:
“The closure of the petrochemical site will have a profoundly negative impact as 800 direct jobs and many more through the supply chain are lost.
“As the key business organisation in the local area, we will work with all necessary players, private and public, to find a solution and hopefully safeguard existing jobs and to ensure the continuous supply of fuel throughout Scotland.”
Liz Cameron, Chief Executive, Scottish Chambers of Commerce said:
“This major shock threatens the recovery of Scotland’s economy.
“The priority now is for key players to ensure a solution is reached which prioritises Scotland’s economic recovery. We need contingency plans in place immediately to ensure continuous supply of fuel throughout Scotland.”
