Forres, May 21st, 2013. A major new Development and Innovation Centre for international IT services company Atos, has been officially opened by Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, Richard Lochhead MSP.
The 20,000 sq.ft. facility, ’Venture House’ on the Forres Enterprise Park, housing Atos business technologists, will deliver secure IT development and testing services to support a range of public and private sector clients across Scotland and the UK.
The investment by Atos, has created 50 high value jobs with the potential for another 200 to follow and further strengthens the company’s commitment to continue to grow its business in Scotland. Venture House delivers state-of-the-art facilities for the Atos team who were temporarily based at the ex-RAF Kinloss base before the move.
In opening the building, Mr Lochhead – the MSP for Moray – said he was delighted to see the company follow through on its earlier promise to deliver new and highly skilled jobs in the region.
“Scotland is home to a wealth of innovative and ambitious businesses. Atos new purpose built facility, which brings with it 50 jobs and the potential for many more, is a welcome boost for Moray and testament to the skills and talent of the local workforce. It’s also a clear signal of the company’s long-term commitment to Moray and Scotland as a whole,” he added.
Gavin Thomson, Atos Senior Vice President in Scotland, said the company which employs 1500 business technologists north of the Border, has worked closely with both the Scottish Government and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to establish the new Development and Innovation Centre in Forres.
“The vision for the Atos Moray Development and Innovation Centre is to deliver world-class professional IT services in an area that is fast becoming one of the key business growth regions in the UK,” he added.
“The initial commitment we made was to create 50 high value skilled jobs here in Moray. The operation has been extremely successful for us and has provided the confidence to invest further. This new facility has the capacity to house up to 250 staff and it is our ambition to grow our investment here over the next three years.
“We have already recruited and retrained ex RAF personnel from the Kinloss base and attracted skilled business technologists back to the area to take up the high quality jobs we are offering here in Forres. Atos is building a strong team here and we believe there is significant value we can bring to support organisations advance their business both locally and throughout the UK.“
HIE has successfully attracted a number of new businesses and jobs to the 100-acre Enterprise Park, Forres. Chief Executive, Alex Paterson has welcomed the Atos investment and commitment to the area.
“HIE is delighted to see another ambitious global firm grow in Moray. We have worked closely with Atos over the past year as they have created 50 high quality local jobs. With Scottish Government support, HIE has been able to move quickly to build this iconic building which will allow the business to build on their success,” he added.
“Their decision to locate and expand here reflects our region’s capability and capacity to provide highly skilled and specialist staff, and a can-do business climate where we are ready to meet the needs of companies trading worldwide.”
Owen O’Donohue, Head of Moray Development and Innovation Centre at Atos, said the move to the new site had been welcomed by all involved in the project.
“The opening of Venture House is a big moment for all those involved in what will be a world-class facility in Forres,” he added.
“The area is already witnessing a significant boost in the number of leading businesses establishing a base in the Inverness, Highlands and Moray and this new facility further enhances the Atos reputation of powering progress for our clients across the country.
“We will be engaging with local businesses in the months ahead to identify areas where we can support and add value to their operations and deliver the IT solutions they need to grow at home and further afield.“
