Scottish Chambers Trade Mission to Hamburg Focus on Role of Education in Economic Growth

Fri, 2013-03-22 08:03

Scottish Chambers of Commerce Chief Executive Liz Cameron is leading a trade mission to Hamburg, Germany on 21 and 22 March 2013.  Speaking at Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Liz Cameron said:

“Germany has built a national business brand that is a byword for quality and technological excellence.

“This has been based on a history of investment in both industry and education.  The German education system foregrounds technical and business qualifications.

“Scotland can learn from this – the success of a country that values vocational, technical and business education as highly as academic routes, and where young people are supported socially to pursue these routes.

“It is no accident that in a Europe of worryingly high levels of youth unemployment, Germany – with its emphasis on future employment in educating its young people - is suffering less than other countries.”
