Welcome to my first update of the Chamber activities I am involved in when I am not attending our networking events.
I first stepped into the role of the current Chamber’s CEO in December 2012 and since then it has moved at a much faster pace than I ever could have imagined.
Since starting I am now sitting on several boards including the Economic Development Committee, Working Together, Community Planning Project and the Forum for Reform on Further Education with the Cabinet Secretary of Education Michael Russell and Sir Iain Wood. Recently I have been asked to join a working group at the Scottish Chambers to pull together a project to work with Skills Development Scotland to roll out a new national scheme that will be run by Chambers all over Scotland.
All the above groups have one common aim - to help get young people into work with the assistance of local businesses. To be able to do this all groups need to work closer with their local businesses and this is where the Chamber comes in. I will keep you updated as things progress but there are a lot of exciting potential projects for the Chamber and its members to be involved in.
New products that the team and I have implemented over the past few months are the Chamber Breakfast Club offering a great networking opportunity and our Bronze, Silver and Gold packages which are proving to be a great success. For more information please click here or contact the Chamber office.
One of our key successes is the new Premier Partner membership, of which we now have 7 new partners with a further two in discussion. On the back of these memberships we have our new Directors Lunches where these members can offer to host a lunch and we discuss in an open forum local business issues, for example recruitment, skills shortages, local charity etc.
We have brought on many new services to help our members with savings within their business:
- The Full Range Purchasing
- Flexible Office Services
- Scot FX
- Jump Start
With to follow shortly
- The Fuel Card
- Direct Debit Services from London and Zurich
- Export Documentation
I have also been to many events, including the Scottish Parliament & Business Exchange annual dinner, the launch of the new West Lothian TV on Demand and the report on Scotrail’s Economic Impact within Scotland and many more.
From now on I will update you on a regular basis of my activities and what is happening within the Chamber office, so as they say watch this space.
I would lastly like to take this opportunity to welcome Stephanie and Paul into our ranks as new members of our sales and membership support team. If any of our members would like someone from the Chamber to come out and give them more information on the items I have mentioned please give the office a call.
