Based in Livingston, they specialise in tracing missing beneficiaries or heirs to estates.

What would be a typical day of business for you?
The good thing about doing the kind of work we do is that no day is the same.  We’re constantly putting the pieces of a family together like a puzzle, right from the Great Great Grandfather in the 1800’s to the present day family.

As a young business what lesson have you learned that you would pass on to anyone starting up?
Be prepared for a long stressful road ahead!  Long hours, putting processes into place and of course the major one is worrying about cashflow!  As long as you are prepared for the hard work and are prepared to pitch in from the administration to the cleaning you will get an immense sense of accomplishment when it all starts coming together.

What do you like about having you business based in West Lothian?
West Lothian is my home and so being based here gives me a good work and life balance.  It’s also central to Edinburgh and Glasgow so you can have the best of both worlds.

How does your business support the local community?
We are very enthusiastic about giving young people from West Lothian the chance to grow and develop, we have done this by using Steps N2 Work and Forward Training, this is vital in supporting the local community and Economy.

What’s the best thing about being in business for you?
You’re the one in control! It also helps you to have a more flexible lifestyle and although at the start its work work work, you’re creating and building and this has its own rewards, greater self-confidence and an ability to help people whether it be through giving to charity or through employment.  Being awarded the Highly Commended Shona Sibbald Award for Women in Business last year was such a great achievement and motivator for both myself and my colleagues.

And the worst?
Always being on call and never fully switching off when you do get a day off!

What do you do to encourage your staff to work enthusiastically?
We have a relaxed working environment where the radio is in the background and my 2 little dogs Pip and Paige are always available for cuddles!  We have team building outings and a yearly bonus which is dependent on performance and profit.  We all know when to shift up a gear when the pressure is on, however it is important to have a good balance.
